W hen Metropolitan Life Insurance Company moved from its Wilson Street home at the end of December 1977, John Fisher and Waverly Watkins, Sr., realized their dream could indeed become a reality. The deal took almost a year to consummate, and four months later, on April 9, 1979, Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home opened for business.

The business continued to grow over the years. In June, 1994, renovations were made to the existing building, enlarging the chapel from a seating capacity of approximately 110 people to one accommodating approximately 450 people. Two visitation parlors providing an elegant, peaceful setting that is warm and comforting were constructed for private family viewing. As a further consideration, there are no steps to impede access and the atmosphere is always warm and tasteful. In March 2000, renovations were made to the business offices. A reception foyer was constructed to provide greater accessibility to our professional and courteous office personnel.

The offices of the President and Vice President were renovated, as well as the addition of an office for the Office Manager and enlarging the office of the Administrative Assistant. The Conference Room and Casket Display Room were also updated.

In 2009, a state of the art sound system was installed in the chapel providing surround sound,as well as a Digital Video Device with wide screen access when you want to make your special time a very personal time.

An actuality that started as a mere dream by two men who were deeply loved, respected by many and missed by all that knew them continues to grow.

The depth of love, devotion, commitment and dedication shown to those served by the late John C. Fisher and the late
Waverly E. Watkins, Sr. is exemplified in the legacy they left behind.
